Green River flooding and the Desimone Levee

Tukwila sits where the Green River becomes the Duwamish, and much of the city’s business district is on the valley floor behind levees. On December 15, 2025, after a week of heavy rain, the Desimone Levee on the Green River breached in the Orillia area. King County issued a GO NOW evacuation for the part of Tukwila south of South 180th Street and west of West Valley Highway, contacted about 1,100 people, and evacuated more than 500, most of them from businesses.
